A work in constant progress (and occasional regress).
A music executive, composers agent and manager. Robert Messinger has been instrumental in launching the film music careers of many of today's most exciting composers and is recognized as one of the leading music agents working in film. Messinger's clients include three-time Oscar-nominee Alberto Iglesias (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) as well as Oscar- and Golden Globe-winners Mychael Danna (Life of Pi), Howard Shore (Lord of the Rings; The Hobbit), Gustavo Santaolalla (Babel; Brokeback Mountain) and Rachel Portman (Chocolat; Emma); Oscar-nominee Philip Glass (The Hours; Notes on a Scandal); Golden Globe-nominees Clint Mansell (Black Swan; The Fountain) and Michael Brook (The Fighter; Into the Wild); and Grammy nominee David Holmes (Ocean's Eleven). He also represents the acclaimed Icelandic band Sigur Ros and Slash from Guns'N'Roses. Robert began his career in music in the publicity department of IRS Records, working with bands such as REM, while attending UCLA as a Theater Arts major. Then he was a founder and Senior Vice President at Blue Focus Management. And further, an agent and owner of First Artists Management — the music agency representing such Oscar- and Golden Globe-winning composers as Mychael Danna, Howard Shore, Gustavo Santaolalla, Philip Glass and Clint Mansell, and other top film composers and music supervisors, among them: Craig Armstrong (The Great Gatsby), David Arnold (Casino Royale), Carter Burwell (True Grit) and Rolfe Kent (Up in the Air). Robert Messinger, Rich Jacobellis and Randy Gerston have left the First Artists and formed Fortress Talent Management, a full-service boutique agency representing composers and music supervisors for visual media. The company is involved in major stage musicals including "Pan's Labyrinth" and "Like Water for Chocolate" and also has a significant presence in videogames and advertising. Fortress Talent Management boasts a roster of Oscar-winning clients, including three-time winner Howard Shore, two-time winner Gustavo Santaolalla, Mychael Danna and Rachel Portman, as well as three-time Oscar-nominees Philip Glass, Alberto Iglesias and 2014 nominee Owen Pallett (Her). The company’s clients include Golden Globe nominees Clint Mansell, Michael Brook, Terence Blanchard (25th Hour) and Reinhold Heil (Cloud Atlas), as well as Emmy-winners/nominees Jeff Beal (House of Cards), Nathan Barr (The Americans), Jon Ehrlich (House), Jeff Russo (Fargo), Paul Haslinger (Fear the Walking Dead), David Schwartz (Arrested Development) and Wendy & Lisa (Nurse Jackie) and Jay Gruska (Supernatural). Fortress represents music supervisors including Alexandra Patsavas, Liza Richardson, Kevin Edelman, Tracy McKnight, Wendy Levy and Gary Calamar.
Most data and links to images for the Movies section come from TheMovieDB (TMDB).
Additional data for Film Titles come from The Open Movie Database (OMDb).
At least one plug-in comes from IMDb.
Data are -- hey, it's a plural -- subject to the limitations of their sources. (For example, TMDB search results currently max out at 20.) I am limiting myself to free data sources for now. (No, a "free trial" is not free.)
While much of the above data are retrieved directly from outside APIs and other such sources, data from American Film Institute (AFI) and British Film Institute (BFI) were manually entered the old fashioned way into a MySQL database. Re BFI I took the following liberties:
Regarding profile removals and data corrections:
Filtering is applied here to film projects flagged as "adult" by TheMovieDB. Pending "popular demand" I am contemplating a login and profile system with preferences (such as whether to allow adult images to appear) and permissions (such as data entry).
Whereas the overall purpose of this website is to serve as a personal demo/portfolio/workshop of web and data skills, this Movies section is not meant to compete with or substitute for far more definitive movie websites.
Whether or not he still clings to an award which he won in 1986 as a film critic for his college's newspaper, Jeffrey Hartmann is not responsible for the texts of overviews and biographies supplied by external data sources.
