Set in Ishinomaki and Onagawa, Miyagi Prefecture, the protagonist of this work is Obayashi Kenji, whose wife and daughter went missing in the Great East Japan Earthquake. Kenji has been working as a taxi driver for 13 years, after hearing that the spirits of people who died in the tsunami ride in his taxi as passengers. One night, Kenji is surprised to hear a melody being hummed by a high school girl named Rira, who gets in his taxi. It is a song that reminds him of his wife and child, and as he searches for the song, he learns of his wife's feelings and creates a small miracle in the town.
