Neshan Der Haroutiounian is a Lebanese media personality of Armenian descent. He was born in Armenia. He graduated from Studio El Fan and won the gold medal in the category of program presenting in 1996. The death of his father, which occurred while Neshan was living in Dubai, deeply affected him emotionally as he was very attached to his father. His mother, named Bergehoyen, is a Syrian Armenian from Sweida. He has two siblings: an older sister, Sally, and a younger brother, Rafi. Since childhood, Neshan was passionate about learning and knowledge, and he is an avid reader. At the age of 18, he suffered a serious health issue that nearly cost him his life. He teaches media at the American University of Beirut and is involved in various humanitarian activities. Neshan holds a degree in Biology from the American University of Beirut, a CELTA certificate for teaching English to adults from the University of Cambridge, and a Master’s degree in the Philosophy of Communication from Switzerland. He is also known for his passion for languages and is fluent in Arabic, Armenian, English, French, Turkish, and Italian. He began his media career in 1993 with Zee Arabia, where he hosted several shows including a quiz show called "Seconds Only" and a talk show with Arab celebrities titled "Ramsha." In 1996, he participated as a contestant in Studio El Fan, and in 1997, he received a job offer from the Arab Radio and Television Network (ART), which at the time was broadcasting from Rome, Italy. There, he gained significant experience and fame across the Arab world by presenting entertainment and game shows on the network’s main channel and ART Variety. He returned to Beirut in 2000 when the broadcasting center moved there, and he hosted "Khallik Aal Khatt", a program that achieved great success. Neshan also had experience in radio, working with Emirates FM. In 2001, he signed with Al Jadeed TV and was the first TV host to appear on the channel with the morning show "Sabah El Ward," marking the beginning of his broader media career. His engaging style earned him a wide audience among Arab viewers. He took part in presenting several international festivals, such as the Miss Europe pageant in 2002, the Best Fashion Model Festival in 2003, and the Dubai International Film Festival in 2006. In 2007, he joined MBC, and later in 2013, he worked with LBC and MTV Lebanon. In 2014, he hosted a program aired during Ramadan on both MTV Lebanon and Egypt’s Al Hayat TV, reaching Egyptian households widely. In March 2016, he returned with a major talk show titled "Akaber," where he hosted top celebrities—starting with Assi El Hallani. On September 26, 2018, he returned to Al Jadeed TV—the station that played a major role in his early success—with the social issues program "Ana Heik" (This Is Me), produced by Daydream Productions in collaboration with Al Jadeed. The program addressed various societal topics in a modern and innovative way. In June 2019, he hosted "Tawam Rouhi" (Soul Twin) on the Qatari channel beIN Drama.
Most data and links to images for the Movies section come from TheMovieDB (TMDB).
Additional data for Film Titles come from The Open Movie Database (OMDb).
At least one plug-in comes from IMDb.
Data are -- hey, it's a plural -- subject to the limitations of their sources. (For example, TMDB search results currently max out at 20.) I am limiting myself to free data sources for now. (No, a "free trial" is not free.)
While much of the above data are retrieved directly from outside APIs and other such sources, data from American Film Institute (AFI) and British Film Institute (BFI) were manually entered the old fashioned way into a MySQL database. Re BFI I took the following liberties:
Regarding profile removals and data corrections:
Filtering is applied here to film projects flagged as "adult" by TheMovieDB. Pending "popular demand" I am contemplating a login and profile system with preferences (such as whether to allow adult images to appear) and permissions (such as data entry).
Whereas the overall purpose of this website is to serve as a personal demo/portfolio/workshop of web and data skills, this Movies section is not meant to compete with or substitute for far more definitive movie websites.
Whether or not he still clings to an award which he won in 1986 as a film critic for his college's newspaper, Jeffrey Hartmann is not responsible for the texts of overviews and biographies supplied by external data sources.
