A work in constant progress (and occasional regress).
Ryan Ward is a writer, director and actor based in Manitoba, Canada and Los Angeles, California. His newest feature, DAUGHTER OF THE SUN, that he wrote, directed and starred in, screened at Fantasia International Film Festival (Audience Award), the Berlinale (Perspective Canada 2024), and Fantaspoa (Best Actor). Praised as "stellar" (ScreenAnarchy), "captivating" (Toronto Star), and "one of the best films you'll see this year" (Unseen Films), the film will be released by Red Water Entertainment and Buffalo 8 in Fall 2024. Ryan's debut feature, SON OF THE SUNSHINE, (Slamdance), was nominated by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television for a Canadian Screen Award (CSA) with Indiewire praising it as "a mature, immediately involving story" and the National Post calling it "a gem of filmmaking genius." Distributed by Netflix, Amazon, HBO, Hulu, and MUBI, it screened at over 50 festivals, winning 13 awards. Ryan's other select credits as a writer/director include, IN THE BEGINNING WAS WATER AND SKY (PBS), AMERIKA (INPUT TV Best Film), and TIME TRAVELING THROUGH TIME (Omeleto, PÖFF Tallinn Black Nights, SIFF, Flickers' First Prize Best Experimental Film). As an actor, Ryan originated the lead role of Ash in the cult hit, EVIL DEAD: THE MUSICAL (Broadway, Just for Laughs, Original Cast Album) that the New York Times dubbed "the next Rocky Horror Show" and MTV called "the greatest musical phenomenon on the planet." With over 800 performances, Ryan was nominated for a Dora Mavor Moore Award (Canadian Tony) for Best Actor. Ryan also appeared in the films, WE ATE THE CHILDREN LAST (TIFF) and ABOUT FACE (Tribeca).

Most data and links to images for the Movies section come from TheMovieDB (TMDB).
Additional data for Film Titles come from The Open Movie Database (OMDb).
At least one plug-in comes from IMDb.
Data are -- hey, it's a plural -- subject to the limitations of their sources. (For example, TMDB search results currently max out at 20.) I am limiting myself to free data sources for now. (No, a "free trial" is not free.)
While much of the above data are retrieved directly from outside APIs and other such sources, data from American Film Institute (AFI) and British Film Institute (BFI) were manually entered the old fashioned way into a MySQL database. Re BFI I took the following liberties:
Regarding profile removals and data corrections:
Filtering is applied here to film projects flagged as "adult" by TheMovieDB. Pending "popular demand" I am contemplating a login and profile system with preferences (such as whether to allow adult images to appear) and permissions (such as data entry).
Whereas the overall purpose of this website is to serve as a personal demo/portfolio/workshop of web and data skills, this Movies section is not meant to compete with or substitute for far more definitive movie websites.
Whether or not he still clings to an award which he won in 1986 as a film critic for his college's newspaper, Jeffrey Hartmann is not responsible for the texts of overviews and biographies supplied by external data sources.
