JOÃO is an European actor and musician, born in Funchal (MADEIRA Island, Portugal). As an actor, JOÃO got his training and qualifications in Theater, TV and Film, from Nicolau Breyner, Beatriz Flores Silva (Directing Actors for FILM and TV - "The American Method" - Stanislavski), Patrícia Vasconcelos, Carlos Dante, Rui de Sá and Cristina Cavalinhos. JOÃO played several roles in international and local renowned productions, for instance in TV (selected): "Une Famille Formidable" (TF1 - Télévision Française 1); "Santa Bárbara" (TVI), "Abandonados" (RTP), "Flor do Mar" (TVI); in Theater (selected): "Pavorosa Ciência de Ver" (CRIAMAR), "A New Year Extravaganza" (Directed by Stephen Adams), "The Show Must Go On" (Directed by Chris Dilley) and in (long features) Film (selected): "O Amuleto" (Directed by Nuno Bilber), "O Miradouro do Mar " (Directed by Luís Jardim), "O Feiticeiro da Calheta" (Directed by Luís Jardim), "Cartas de Fora" (Directed by Luís Jardim), "REPRISAL, The Movie" (Directed by João Abreu), among others.  As a musician, JOÃO took his Erudite Music graduation in "Conservatório - Escola Professional das Artes da Madeira, CEPAM", where he concluded the 8th degree of musical training and elected PIANO his passionate musical instrument to this day. As a Pianist, JOÃO played several piano concerts in Teatro Municipal Baltazar Dias (Madeira Island, Portugal) either as soloist or with chamber music, playing Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Händel, Diabeli, Hayder, Schumann compositions. Before his final graduation in classical music and in the 12 year old students category, JOÃO competed on a national wide event called "Portuguese Musical Youth" (Juventude Musical Portuguesa) where JOÃO achieved the national 2nd prize with jury honors.  In 2017 JOÃO composed an entire Original Motion Picture Score for the Portuguese long feature film "O Feiticeiro da Calheta" (by Luís Miguel Jardim) leading to his 1st CD launch in April 28th, 2018. In 2019 JOÃO was, again, invited to composed another entire Original Motion Picture Score for the Portuguese long feature film "Cartas de Fora" (by Luís Miguel Jardim).  Presently, JOÃO is established in Europe (Portugal, mainly), working as an actor in Film, Stage & Television, also performing live Piano show's, Scoring OST's, Producing, Directing and Color-grading feature films, and he's fighting to expand his artist career in the United States of America!  Mini Biography By: Terry C.

While much of the above data are retrieved directly from outside APIs and other such sources, data from American Film Institute (AFI) and British Film Institute (BFI) were manually entered the old fashioned way into a MySQL database. Re BFI I took the following liberties:

  • I added "runners up" to Top 10 lists, treating them as ties where applicable and numbering them accordingly at the bottom of each list.
  • Regarding those polls wherein "franchise" movies were submitted as one project until BFI's policy changed to regard them separately, I treated them as ties and renumbered the affected lists accordingly (e.g. the Godfather films).
