A work in constant progress (and occasional regress).
Alias:
Miguel Berzal
Miguel Berzal de Miguel is an artist from Madrid. As a writer: El refugio (The Refuge), Entre parientes (Among Relatives - one of the 20 novels selected in the 2016 Premio Gregorio Samsa for which 315 works were entered), Las horas muertas (The Dead Hours - on the list of the 10 best-selling books in Spain in the autumn of 2021) and Náuseas & La hiedra (Nausea & The Ivy - recently presented at the last Madrid Book Fair). These have earned him excellent reviews in cultural media and he has been a finalist for two literary awards with Entre parientes and Las horas muertas. As a film director and scriptwriter, he has four films (three short films and one feature film): Cuidar a Ruth (Taking Care of Ruth), Un encuentro (An Encounter), Nomeolvides (Forget-me-nots), and Sin novedad (No News) for which he has been praised by jury panels, critics, and audiences at several of the major international film festivals worldwide, such as the Cleveland International Film Festival, HollyShorts Film Festival, Palm Springs International Film Festival, Dances With Films and Västerås Film Festival. In addition, Sin novedad received 19 official selections for the 2019 Premios Goya and 7 selections for the Premios Forqué (including Best Film). As a lyric tenor, he is still in training. He is the sole student of the great baritone Rodrigo Esteves and the great tenor Charles Castronovo, who highlight his powerful metallic voice.

Most data and links to images for the Movies section come from TheMovieDB (TMDB).
Additional data for Film Titles come from The Open Movie Database (OMDb).
At least one plug-in comes from IMDb.
Data are -- hey, it's a plural -- subject to the limitations of their sources. (For example, TMDB search results currently max out at 20.) I am limiting myself to free data sources for now. (No, a "free trial" is not free.)
While much of the above data are retrieved directly from outside APIs and other such sources, data from American Film Institute (AFI) and British Film Institute (BFI) were manually entered the old fashioned way into a MySQL database. Re BFI I took the following liberties:
Regarding profile removals and data corrections:
Filtering is applied here to film projects flagged as "adult" by TheMovieDB. Pending "popular demand" I am contemplating a login and profile system with preferences (such as whether to allow adult images to appear) and permissions (such as data entry).
Whereas the overall purpose of this website is to serve as a personal demo/portfolio/workshop of web and data skills, this Movies section is not meant to compete with or substitute for far more definitive movie websites.
Whether or not he still clings to an award which he won in 1986 as a film critic for his college's newspaper, Jeffrey Hartmann is not responsible for the texts of overviews and biographies supplied by external data sources.
