Paul Romero Mendez

A London based Director/Producer with over a decade’s worth of experience in narrative fiction, music videos and commercials. He is a member of both Directors UK and BAFTA Connect.  Paul works regularly for companies like Sony Music UK where he has created over 30 music videos for a variety of well-known artists like Little Mix, George Ezra & Tom Grennan, as well as directing commercials for Lidl, Phillips, FEI, Beam Suntory and EA Games to name a few. His main passion lies in drama, where alongside long-time collaborator Arturo M. Antolin, he directed and produced the one-take short film ‘Ruth’, which was selected by Directors UK and ARRI as part of their 2020 TRINITY Challenge. The film was selected to multiple festivals in 2023/24 including BAFTA qualifying Carmarthen Bay Film Festival and BIFA qualifying festivals Wigan & Leigh FF, Crystal Palace International FF, Brighton Rocks FF and North East International FF where it won ‘Best UK short film’. The film went on to win 8 awards including ‘Best International Short’ at Rome International Film Festival. Paul has Directed/Produced various festival qualifying short films like, 'Hacia el Oeste' (Oscar Qualifying Gijon International Film Festival), as well as producing short films for directors Like Tomisin Adepeju (Journey Mercies, 2023) and Megan K. Fox (Calling Home, 2017) that have been accepted into multiple BAFTA qualifying festivals like Aesthetica, London Short Film Festival and Underwire Film Festival.  Paul was also accepted onto the Directors UK Mentoring Scheme in 2021 and is currently being mentored by director Andy Hay and will be shadowing him on the Channel 5 series All Creatures Great and Small.  He is currently developing his debut feature film ‘From This Day Forward’ as well as finalising short films ‘While it Lasts’ (which was the 2023 FILMD Grant screenwriting award winner, written by Katie Sheridan) and ‘Swan Song’, both shot in 2025, and producing a short film for Director Tomisin Adepeju with Ken Loach’s ‘Sixteen Films’ production company called ‘Its Dancing Time’ which won the Uncertain Kingdom Belief Grant in 2024 and is set to shoot in 2025

While much of the above data are retrieved directly from outside APIs and other such sources, data from American Film Institute (AFI) and British Film Institute (BFI) were manually entered the old fashioned way into a MySQL database. Re BFI I took the following liberties:

  • I added "runners up" to Top 10 lists, treating them as ties where applicable and numbering them accordingly at the bottom of each list.
  • Regarding those polls wherein "franchise" movies were submitted as one project until BFI's policy changed to regard them separately, I treated them as ties and renumbered the affected lists accordingly (e.g. the Godfather films).

Filtering is applied here to film projects flagged as "adult" by TheMovieDB. Pending "popular demand" I am contemplating a login and profile system with preferences (such as whether to allow adult images to appear) and permissions (such as data entry).

Whereas the overall purpose of this website is to serve as a personal demo/portfolio/workshop of web and data skills, this Movies section is not meant to compete with or substitute for far more definitive movie websites.
