Shiva Sanjari is an Iranian artist and filmmaker. In 2002 she did a B.A. in Graphic Design (Fine Art) from Tehran University of Fine Art. In 2008 she was in Residence in Cite international des Arts – Paris, Awarded the scholarship by Cite International des Arts. In her short artistic career she has had many National and International Shows to her credit. In 2003 she exhibited at the Azad Gallery, Tehran, Iran; at Chaumont Gallery, Paris, France; at Art Chamber Gallery, Goa, India and at Galeria Jana Koniarka, Trnava – Slovakia. In the next 3 years she exhibited at Niyavaran Cultural Center organized by UN – Tehran; Crimson the Art Resource, Bangalore; Chaumont Gallery, Paris; Sadabad Gallery, Tehran and Kala Ghoda Gallery, Mumbai. Shiva came to making films and documentaries from a visual arts background where she painted and made sculptures for ten years. But a few years later she was diagnosed with tuberculosis and was bedridden for six months. When she got better, she didn’t have the physical power to paint or sculpt. She says, “It was at that time when I thought of getting rid of the two-dimensional structure and put my skills into filmmaking and offer myself a bigger and better frame to express my feelings.” She is known for her documentary “Here the Seats are Vacant”, about the first woman filmmaker of Iran. The movie was shown at the 13th International Association of Women in Radio and Television (IAWRT) Asian Women’s Film Festival. Her film is about Shahrzad (stage name) a young woman in the pre-Iranian revolution days, who was sold by her father. It’s the story of the protagonist rise and fall, where she first struggled as a cabaret dancer and then become an award-winning actress, a great author, and one of the first female directors of that era. Shiva lives and works in Tehran.

Most data and links to images for the Movies section come from TheMovieDB (TMDB).
Additional data for Film Titles come from The Open Movie Database (OMDb).
At least one plug-in comes from IMDb.
Data are -- hey, it's a plural -- subject to the limitations of their sources. (For example, TMDB search results currently max out at 20.) I am limiting myself to free data sources for now. (No, a "free trial" is not free.)
While much of the above data are retrieved directly from outside APIs and other such sources, data from American Film Institute (AFI) and British Film Institute (BFI) were manually entered the old fashioned way into a MySQL database. Re BFI I took the following liberties:
Regarding profile removals and data corrections:
Filtering is applied here to film projects flagged as "adult" by TheMovieDB. Pending "popular demand" I am contemplating a login and profile system with preferences (such as whether to allow adult images to appear) and permissions (such as data entry).
Whereas the overall purpose of this website is to serve as a personal demo/portfolio/workshop of web and data skills, this Movies section is not meant to compete with or substitute for far more definitive movie websites.
