Julie Minasian

Birthplace:
New York City, New York

Julie Minasian has extensive musical training, performing and teaching experience. She is a licensed Music Together teacher and has over 15 years of experience teaching piano to children and adults. Julie was born into a musical family in a rich musical environment. Her musical ability was nurtured at a very young age by her parents, Samuel, a violinist, and Joyce Minasian, a pianist who both graduated from the Eastman School of Music. Julie's mother taught her piano starting at the age of 4 and she began voice lessons at age 15. Julie showed interest in writing music around age 11. A classically trained pianist and vocalist, Julie graduated from Drury University with a Bachelor of Music with majors in piano, voice and music theory/composition. During college, Julie spent a year abroad in London, England at Trinity Laban conservatory where she studied piano and vocal performance. She studied piano with Simon Young and performed a solo piano recital in London during her year abroad.  After college, Julie went on to have a career singing in professional choirs, including the New York Choral Artists, as well as in choirs for film and game soundtracks. Some of her film score credits include The Lorax, Ice Age 4, Men in Black 3 and Star Trek Into Darkness. Julie also composes piano and choral music, and is a songwriter. She has performed her original songs at numerous venues in New York City and Los Angeles and recorded a full-length CD entitled "This is the Love I Have." In addition to music, Julie is also a trained actress and has performed on stage as well as in TV and film. She studied acting at Drury University and Regent's College in London, and with acting teachers in New York and Los Angeles. Some of her film acting credits include the The Holiday, Spider-Man 3 and the 2011 Oscar-winning movie, The Artist.

About the Movie Section

Most data and links to images for the Movies section come from TheMovieDB (TMDB).

Additional data for Film Titles come from The Open Movie Database (OMDb).

At least one plug-in comes from IMDb.

Data are -- hey, it's a plural -- subject to the limitations of their sources. (For example, TMDB search results currently max out at 20.) I am limiting myself to free data sources for now. (No, a "free trial" is not free.)

While much of the above data are retrieved directly from outside APIs and other such sources, data from American Film Institute (AFI) and British Film Institute (BFI) were manually entered the old fashioned way into a MySQL database. Re BFI I took the following liberties:

  • I added "runners up" to Top 10 lists, treating them as ties where applicable and numbering them accordingly at the bottom of each list.
  • Regarding those polls wherein "franchise" movies were submitted as one project until BFI's policy changed to regard them separately, I treated them as ties and renumbered the affected lists accordingly (e.g. the Godfather films).

Regarding profile removals and data corrections:

  • If you would like your profile removed from this site, please contact the source of this data directly, TheMovieDB. My assumption is: once it's gone from their site, it should soon be gone from this site.
  • If you would like to correct movie data on this site, please contact the source of this data directly, TheMovieDB. My assumption is: once it's corrected on their site, it should soon be corrected on this site.
  • For additional corrections and profile removals, please e-mail The Open Movie Database (OMDb).

Filtering is applied here to film projects flagged as "adult" by TheMovieDB. Pending "popular demand" I am contemplating a login and profile system with preferences (such as whether to allow adult images to appear) and permissions (such as data entry).

Whereas the overall purpose of this website is to serve as a personal demo/portfolio/workshop of web and data skills, this Movies section is not meant to compete with or substitute for far more definitive movie websites.
