Josh Margulies was born under a full moon in Nepal and raised in Hawai'i. He is an award winning comedic & romantic actor. When he was a little boy he always used to put on plays with his brother in front of the huge glass window at family gatherings. He eventually earned recognition in his quirky breakthrough role as the lead in the comedic TV pilot "Surreal Estates", where he plays a scientist & ghost-hunter. This pilot was subsequently featured at Cannes in 2019. In 2021 it was awarded as runner up for Best Ensemble. Although his forte is comedy, drama is not lost on this man; In 2018 he won a best supporting actor award as a concerned father in the dramatic Indie feature film, Sand Angels. The comedy pilot won best pilot in the 2016 Sunset Film Festival in Los Angeles. He plays alongside Dylan McDermott in Fox's very funny, "LA to Vegas". Margulies was featured in "The Artist" (Best Picture 2012). That year he debuted at the Hollywood Fringe Festival in Hollywood & won an award as best actor in a comedy playing a crazy alien! More recently Josh played the James Bond/ Indiana Jones type lead in "The lost treasure" and a father in the family comedy "Caralique". After that he traveled the globe for a spell -going to 17 countries in 7 months before returning to his career calling. He lives and continues to act in Paris, France with his lovely talented director wife and two little girls. Josh is also an award winning producer alongside his partner, the talented French director, Stella Tinucci. He is Welsh, Russian, Polish and French. Margulies is an avid traveler, big wave searcher and world surfer. He was born in Nepal under a full moon, held by mother Theresa and raised in Hawaii. His father Edward Margulies was a doctor of medicine who attended Johns Hopkins and traveled the earth during his residency. Edward found himself on an adventure in the Himalayas & met Sherry Nohonani Allen, Josh's mother, who was in Nepal doing missionary work. His acting film debut came in college when he was asked to star in a remake of the Maltese Falcon. He played the Humphrey Bogart character "Sam Spade". He is a confident playful and rugged actor. In several other college films he has played the best friend, playboy or guy's guy. He has had roles ranging from physician, bartender, coach to CEO and stockbroker. His acting technique is bold and friendly.
Most data and links to images for the Movies section come from TheMovieDB (TMDB).
Additional data for Film Titles come from The Open Movie Database (OMDb).
At least one plug-in comes from IMDb.
Data are -- hey, it's a plural -- subject to the limitations of their sources. (For example, TMDB search results currently max out at 20.) I am limiting myself to free data sources for now. (No, a "free trial" is not free.)
While much of the above data are retrieved directly from outside APIs and other such sources, data from American Film Institute (AFI) and British Film Institute (BFI) were manually entered the old fashioned way into a MySQL database. Re BFI I took the following liberties:
Regarding profile removals and data corrections:
Filtering is applied here to film projects flagged as "adult" by TheMovieDB. Pending "popular demand" I am contemplating a login and profile system with preferences (such as whether to allow adult images to appear) and permissions (such as data entry).
Whereas the overall purpose of this website is to serve as a personal demo/portfolio/workshop of web and data skills, this Movies section is not meant to compete with or substitute for far more definitive movie websites.
Whether or not he still clings to an award which he won in 1986 as a film critic for his college's newspaper, Jeffrey Hartmann is not responsible for the texts of overviews and biographies supplied by external data sources.
