Se llamaba Marlène Grey y era francesa. Su belleza fría y hierática distaba de la belleza típica española. Casada con El Hombre Autómata, la joven pareja llegó a España y actuó en el Circo Price y el teatro Maravillas, donde Marlène repetía el número de los leones, de los que se mantenía a salvo gracias al látigo del domador George Marck, con una dilatada experiencia en esas lides. El domador y Venus fueron contratados para Carne de fieras, e incluso dieron un papel secundario a El Hombre Autómata. En la cinta, la francesa, que se interpretaba a sí misma, consigue dejar el mundo del espectáculo gracias al amor de un boxeador que acaba de pedir el divorcio a su mujer, una vedette que le engañaba. Al finalizar el rodaje, en septiembre de 1936, los franceses dejaron España. Las noticias se pierden, aunque circulaban rumores de que, en 1939, uno de sus propios leones acabó con la vida de la artista circense . Un hecho del que no hay constancia en las historias generales del circo francés consultadas por Ríos Carratalá. El asunto no está claro: según cuenta Ferrán Alberich, restaurador del filme, hubo gente que se le acercó después del estreno que aseguraba haber visto a Marlène actuando en los años cuarenta en el norte de África.

While much of the above data are retrieved directly from outside APIs and other such sources, data from American Film Institute (AFI) and British Film Institute (BFI) were manually entered the old fashioned way into a MySQL database. Re BFI I took the following liberties:

  • I added "runners up" to Top 10 lists, treating them as ties where applicable and numbering them accordingly at the bottom of each list.
  • Regarding those polls wherein "franchise" movies were submitted as one project until BFI's policy changed to regard them separately, I treated them as ties and renumbered the affected lists accordingly (e.g. the Godfather films).

Regarding profile removals and data corrections:

  • If you would like your profile removed from this site, please contact the source of this data directly, TheMovieDB. My assumption is: once it's gone from their site, it should soon be gone from this site.

Filtering is applied here to film projects flagged as "adult" by TheMovieDB. Pending "popular demand" I am contemplating a login and profile system with preferences (such as whether to allow adult images to appear) and permissions (such as data entry).
