Panos Papahadzis

Panos started working in the cinema and television business in the '80s. He had been an active member of the State Council of Cinematography under the authority of the Greek Ministry of Culture. He has participated in EAVE/Media Programme 1992 seminars for European producers. Panos is a member of the European Film Academy, President of S.A.P.O.E. (Audiovisual Producers' Association of Greece), founding member of the Hellenic Film Academy and member of the Academy's first Board of Directors.  He has produced over than 50 feature films that won national recognition along with commercial success. Among these are FROM THE SNOW by Sotiris Goritsas- 1993 (Cannes Quinzaine des Réalisateurs, Golden Alexander in the Thessaloniki Film Festival), END OF AN ERA by Antonis Kokkinos-1994 (Berlin FF), THE COW'S ORGASM by Olga Malea- 1997, EXTENDED PLAY by Yannis Xanthopoulos- 2006 (380.000 domestic box office), STRAIGHT STORY by Vladimiros Kyriakidis and Efi Mouriki- 2006 (400.000 domestic box office), SOUL KICKING by Yannis Economides- 2006 (Cannes- Semaine Internationale de la Critique 2006), IN THE WOODS by Angelos Frantzis- 2010 (premiere in Rotterdam Film Festival), KNIFER by Yannis Economides- 2010 (premiere in Busan Film Festival, 7 awards by the Hellenic Film Academy), STRATOS-TO MIKRO PSARI by Yannis Economides- 2014 (Berlinale Competition 2014), ROZA OF SMYRNA by Yorgos Kordellas- 2016 (360.000 domestic box office), BALLAD FOR A PIERCED HEART by Yannis Economides, SIEGE ON LIPERTI STREET by Stavros Pamballis , ARMY BABY by Yorgos Kordellas and PELE'S TEAM by Marios Karamanis, which is currently in production. Panos has also produced documentaries, shorts and TV series. His productions have participated in many International Festivals such as Cannes, Berlin, Carlovy Vary, London, Toronto, Istanbul and many others.  Over the years, Panos has worked on many international co-productions (with France, Germany, Canada, Turkey, Bulgaria, Hungary, Belgium and Cyprus).

About the Movie Section

Most data and links to images for the Movies section come from TheMovieDB (TMDB).

Additional data for Film Titles come from The Open Movie Database (OMDb).

At least one plug-in comes from IMDb.

Data are -- hey, it's a plural -- subject to the limitations of their sources. (For example, TMDB search results currently max out at 20.) I am limiting myself to free data sources for now. (No, a "free trial" is not free.)

While much of the above data are retrieved directly from outside APIs and other such sources, data from American Film Institute (AFI) and British Film Institute (BFI) were manually entered the old fashioned way into a MySQL database. Re BFI I took the following liberties:

  • I added "runners up" to Top 10 lists, treating them as ties where applicable and numbering them accordingly at the bottom of each list.
  • Regarding those polls wherein "franchise" movies were submitted as one project until BFI's policy changed to regard them separately, I treated them as ties and renumbered the affected lists accordingly (e.g. the Godfather films).

Regarding profile removals and data corrections:

Filtering is applied here to film projects flagged as "adult" by TheMovieDB. Pending "popular demand" I am contemplating a login and profile system with preferences (such as whether to allow adult images to appear) and permissions (such as data entry).

Whereas the overall purpose of this website is to serve as a personal demo/portfolio/workshop of web and data skills, this Movies section is not meant to compete with or substitute for far more definitive movie websites.
