A work in constant progress (and occasional regress).
Alias:
मेहुल कुमार
Birthplace:
Jamnagar, Gujarat, India
Mohammed Ibrahim Baloch, better known by his professional name Mehul Kumar, was born in Jamnagar, Gujarat, India. He is a celebrated Bollywood filmmaker, writer, and director, renowned for creating some of the industry's memorable hits. Among his most acclaimed works are "Marte Dam Tak" (1987), "Jung Baaz" (1989), the patriotic blockbuster "Tirangaa" (1993), the hard-hitting "Krantiveer" (1994), and "Mrityudaata" (1997). Mehul Kumar's journey in cinema began not behind the camera, but with a pen. After graduating from Bombay University in the 1970s, he initially worked as a film journalist, writing reviews and analyses of films. However, his creative instincts soon drew him to the stage. He immersed himself in Gujarati theatre, which laid a solid foundation for his future in filmmaking. His first step into cinema came with the bilingual Hindi-Gujarati film "Janam Janam Na Saath" (1977), also known in Hindi as "Phir Janam Lenge Hum." From there, he steadily built a career distinguished by bold storytelling, patriotic themes, and engaging entertainment. Beyond his professional achievements, Mehul Kumar is a dedicated family man. He runs Mehul Cinemax, a cinema in his hometown Jamnagar, under his production banner Mehul Entertainment. Filmmaking runs in his blood: his brother Hussain Bloch is also a film director, and the two have collaborated on several projects. His daughter Jahan starred as the lead in "Krantiveer: The Revolution," the sequel to his iconic film "Krantiveer." His son Zoheb has assisted him in direction, while his other daughter, Shameem Khan, has carved her own niche as a talented costume designer in the industry. Mehul Kumar's life and career reflect a profound love for cinema, a commitment to storytelling, and a legacy that continues through his family and his enduring contributions to Indian film. Most data and links to images for the Movies section come from TheMovieDB (TMDB).
Additional data for Film Titles come from The Open Movie Database (OMDb).
At least one plug-in comes from IMDb.
Data are -- hey, it's a plural -- subject to the limitations of their sources. (For example, TMDB search results currently max out at 20.) I am limiting myself to free data sources for now. (No, a "free trial" is not free.)
While much of the above data are retrieved directly from outside APIs and other such sources, data from American Film Institute (AFI) and British Film Institute (BFI) were manually entered the old fashioned way into a MySQL database. Re BFI I took the following liberties:
Regarding profile removals and data corrections:
Filtering is applied here to film projects flagged as "adult" by TheMovieDB. Pending "popular demand" I am contemplating a login and profile system with preferences (such as whether to allow adult images to appear) and permissions (such as data entry).
Whereas the overall purpose of this website is to serve as a personal demo/portfolio/workshop of web and data skills, this Movies section is not meant to compete with or substitute for far more definitive movie websites.
Whether or not he still clings to an award which he won in 1986 as a film critic for his college's newspaper, Jeffrey Hartmann is not responsible for the texts of overviews and biographies supplied by external data sources.
