In a remote country house, a girl who is struggling to connect with her family after the loss of her father is visited by a mud monster. As her encounters with the creature become frequent, she begins to suffer from a mysterious illness.
Following the recent death of her father, a young girl named Fiamma fails to connect with an overwhelmed, distant mother and a Cthulhu-obsessed teenage sister. Left to her own devices in the remote country house where she lives, Fiamma spends her time talking to the strange little sculptures she makes with the mud collected from a pond in the backyard. She seems to know these creatures better than she knows anyone else. While looking out of her bedroom window one night, Fiamma sees a strange mud creature standing by the pond. Fiamma is scared, but she can't stop looking, as if she were hypnotized. The next morning, she wakes up feeling ill. From then on, each day for Fiamma is spent in a haze, filled mostly by the arrival of a mysterious illness that causes her to have auditory hallucinations and dizzy spells. And each night is filled with the excitement and the fear of yet another encounter with the mud monster - encounters that bring her each time a bit closer to the monster and a bit further from reality. Meanwhile, Fiamma's sister, locked up in her bedroom-turned-shrine, is living in her own parallel world of occult religious frenzy, which culminates when an unknowing octopus slides in her room. Fiamma's dizzy spells worsen and she experiences a seizure. The same night, she opens the window and invites the mud monster inside her room.

Most data and links to images for the Movies section come from TheMovieDB (TMDB).
Additional data for Film Titles come from The Open Movie Database (OMDb).
At least one plug-in comes from IMDb.
Data are -- hey, it's a plural -- subject to the limitations of their sources. (For example, TMDB search results currently max out at 20.) I am limiting myself to free data sources for now. (No, a "free trial" is not free.)
While much of the above data are retrieved directly from outside APIs and other such sources, data from American Film Institute (AFI) and British Film Institute (BFI) were manually entered the old fashioned way into a MySQL database. Re BFI I took the following liberties:
Regarding profile removals and data corrections:
Filtering is applied here to film projects flagged as "adult" by TheMovieDB. Pending "popular demand" I am contemplating a login and profile system with preferences (such as whether to allow adult images to appear) and permissions (such as data entry).
Whereas the overall purpose of this website is to serve as a personal demo/portfolio/workshop of web and data skills, this Movies section is not meant to compete with or substitute for far more definitive movie websites.
Whether or not he still clings to an award which he won in 1986 as a film critic for his college's newspaper, Jeffrey Hartmann is not responsible for the texts of overviews and biographies supplied by external data sources.
