A malayalam film is emerging from the influence of southern narrative songs. Kaaliyan, the film is based on the courageous battle in the history of seventeenth century, Venad (Travancore). The story develops through Kaaliyan who is the close confidant of Iravikutty Pillai, chief of army of King Ravi varma of Venad. This film is also an effort to unearth Kaaliyan, Kunjirakottu kaali a genuine warrior, who was sidelined due to Iravikutty pillai's popularity. Kunjirakottu kaali who fought with vigor and valor for sustaining the pride of Venad attained the name Kaaliyan. We proudly present Kaaliyan, who was felicitated even by Madurai emperor Thirumalan Naikan to our viewers.

  • I added "runners up" to Top 10 lists, treating them as ties where applicable and numbering them accordingly at the bottom of each list.
  • Regarding those polls wherein "franchise" movies were submitted as one project until BFI's policy changed to regard them separately, I treated them as ties and renumbered the affected lists accordingly (e.g. the Godfather films).
