On July 15, the Ghost Gate opens and spirits wander the world. Taoist master Uncle Chiu prepares rituals, but his disciple Wanchai sneaks off to a ghost play and is charmed by the wandering spirit Li. Charleston goes to save him, but also falls for her, and together they unleash the ghosts. To set things right, Uncle Chiu calls on his colleague, Master Kin, but trouble grows when Wanchai and Charleston accidentally kill Kin’s corrupt disciple, who turns out to be his secret son. Kin resurrects him as a bloodsucking vampire to seek revenge.

  • Regarding those polls wherein "franchise" movies were submitted as one project until BFI's policy changed to regard them separately, I treated them as ties and renumbered the affected lists accordingly (e.g. the Godfather films).
