Arooj Azam

Birthplace:
Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

Arooj Azam, a British Pakistani polymath in the world of film, was born in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. His early years were steeped in the rich tapestry of Saudi culture before he transitioned to Pakistan in 1986. There, he pursued his academic journey, culminating in a bachelor's degree in engineering sciences. However, his true passion lay in the realms of visual effects, animation, and storytelling, igniting a lifelong dedication to the craft.  Commencing his career as a CG Generalist, Arooj's talents swiftly propelled him to the role of a Lighting Technical Director at Trango. Here, he lent his expertise to numerous television commercials, captivating both local and international audiences with his artistry.  In 2008, Arooj embarked on a new chapter, relocating to London, UK. There, he assumed the mantle of a Lead Lighting Technical Director at Hmx Media in Soho, contributing his creative vision to commercials for industry titans like Sony, Samsung, Nikon, and Lenovo.  A homecoming in 2015 saw Arooj's involvement as the production manager for the successful animated series Burka Avenger (2013). His contributions to Pakistani cinema reached new heights with his roles as Director of Photography and head of animatic for the acclaimed 2018 film Allahyar and the Legend of Markhor (2018). This cinematic masterpiece garnered both critical acclaim and commercial success, solidifying Arooj's reputation as a luminary in the industry.  Continuing his cinematic journey, Arooj served as the chief colorist for the 2023 movie Allahyar and the 100 Flowers of God (2023). Yet, his creative endeavors transcend the silver screen; his recent work includes the 2024 TV series The Adventures of D'Land (2023), where he not only crafted the screenplay but also directed the series, earning accolades from audiences worldwide.  Outside the realm of film-making, Arooj Azam is a beacon of advocacy, championing diversity and inclusion in animation. His commitment to nurturing talent from diverse backgrounds underscores his belief in the transformative power of storytelling.  As an active member of the charity organization Human Appeal, Arooj has directed numerous documentaries and commercials, utilizing his artistry to shed light on pressing social issues.  With his boundless creativity and unwavering dedication to his craft and community, Arooj Azam continues to leave an indelible mark on the world of cinema and beyond.

About the Movie Section

Most data and links to images for the Movies section come from TheMovieDB (TMDB).

Additional data for Film Titles come from The Open Movie Database (OMDb).

At least one plug-in comes from IMDb.

Data are -- hey, it's a plural -- subject to the limitations of their sources. (For example, TMDB search results currently max out at 20.) I am limiting myself to free data sources for now. (No, a "free trial" is not free.)

While much of the above data are retrieved directly from outside APIs and other such sources, data from American Film Institute (AFI) and British Film Institute (BFI) were manually entered the old fashioned way into a MySQL database. Re BFI I took the following liberties:

  • I added "runners up" to Top 10 lists, treating them as ties where applicable and numbering them accordingly at the bottom of each list.
  • Regarding those polls wherein "franchise" movies were submitted as one project until BFI's policy changed to regard them separately, I treated them as ties and renumbered the affected lists accordingly (e.g. the Godfather films).

Regarding profile removals and data corrections:

  • If you would like your profile removed from this site, please contact the source of this data directly, TheMovieDB. My assumption is: once it's gone from their site, it should soon be gone from this site.
  • If you would like to correct movie data on this site, please contact the source of this data directly, TheMovieDB. My assumption is: once it's corrected on their site, it should soon be corrected on this site.
  • For additional corrections and profile removals, please e-mail The Open Movie Database (OMDb).

Filtering is applied here to film projects flagged as "adult" by TheMovieDB. Pending "popular demand" I am contemplating a login and profile system with preferences (such as whether to allow adult images to appear) and permissions (such as data entry).

Whereas the overall purpose of this website is to serve as a personal demo/portfolio/workshop of web and data skills, this Movies section is not meant to compete with or substitute for far more definitive movie websites.
