He was E&Y's Entrepreneur of the Year for Texas in 2012, Central Texas Big Company CEO of the Year in 2014, and Texas Monthly's Best Geoscientist in Texas in 2014. He serves on several advisory boards for non-profit institutions focused on improving both income/social mobility and energy education. He grew up in El Paso, TX and graduated with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Earth Sciences from Rice University and a Masters of Science degree in Geology/Geophysics from University of Texas at El Paso. He and his wife and partner Riki Rushing split their time between Texas, New Mexico, or Mexico.
