Jac Williams completed his studies in film in 2005 where after he freelanced on international commercials, mini series & feature films. He started Man Makes a Picture Productions in 2008. He has directed and produced numerous projects through the years.  In 2012 he has worked as both producer and director on “It’s Africa’s Time”, one of CNBC Africa’s flagship documentary series. The show documents socio-economic upliftment & sustainable development through inclusive business in Africa.  Jac wrapped Ferdinand van Zyl’s military drama feature film, The Recce, (2016) & Harold Holscher’s “8” (Horror) in 2018.  The Recce was selected at 7 International film festivals and was nominated with DOP Jacques van Tonder for debut feature film cinematography at Camerimage (2018) in Poland. The Recce won best foreign feature film at Idyllwild International Film Festival in California (2019) and was awarded a Silver Remi award at the 52th Annual Worldfest in Houston (2019).  8 had a World Premiere in Montreal at Fantasia International Film Festival and is currently being distributed in 11 World Territories including the USA, UK, Germany, Australia & Russia and on Netflix for Africa. 8 has won 23 International awards so far including best feature film at the British Horror Film festival and best horror at the Seattle International Film Festival.  He co-produced Agulhas Shortfilm for Jacques Naude in 2017 and produced Juweeldiewe (2014), Jan Umkwetha (2015) & Benjamin (2018) shortfilms for the Silwerskerm Festival in South Africa.  He also co-produced two game shows for the legendary TV Gameshow brand Atari in 2017 named “Player Up” & “Codebreaker”.  He produced a 10 episode reality show in 2019 called “Model”, currently showing on Showmax and SABC2.  He is currently in development of a new feature films & second  season of “Model

Most data and links to images for the Movies section come from TheMovieDB (TMDB).

Additional data for Film Titles come from The Open Movie Database (OMDb).

At least one plug-in comes from IMDb.

Data are -- hey, it's a plural -- subject to the limitations of their sources. (For example, TMDB search results currently max out at 20.) I am limiting myself to free data sources for now. (No, a "free trial" is not free.)

While much of the above data are retrieved directly from outside APIs and other such sources, data from American Film Institute (AFI) and British Film Institute (BFI) were manually entered the old fashioned way into a MySQL database. Re BFI I took the following liberties:

  • I added "runners up" to Top 10 lists, treating them as ties where applicable and numbering them accordingly at the bottom of each list.
  • Regarding those polls wherein "franchise" movies were submitted as one project until BFI's policy changed to regard them separately, I treated them as ties and renumbered the affected lists accordingly (e.g. the Godfather films).

Filtering is applied here to film projects flagged as "adult" by TheMovieDB. Pending "popular demand" I am contemplating a login and profile system with preferences (such as whether to allow adult images to appear) and permissions (such as data entry).

Whereas the overall purpose of this website is to serve as a personal demo/portfolio/workshop of web and data skills, this Movies section is not meant to compete with or substitute for far more definitive movie websites.
