Jorge Suárez-Quiñones Rivas (León, Spain, 1992)  Madrid-based film artist. Currently artist resident in WIELS Contemporary Art Center, Brussels.  His artistic production has been subject of solo screenings at Expanded Visual Arts Festival RAYO, Tokyo Image Forum, CA2M Contemporary Art Museum and Arts Center Madrid and Zumzeig Barcelona.  International film festivals have programmed his films (IFFR Rotterdam, Punto de Vista, FICUNAM, Filmadrid, Fracto Experimental Film Encounter Berlin, Curtocircuíto, Documenta Madrid, Now&After Moscow, Alcine, Márgenes, Ecrã), as well as contemporary art museums and cultural institutions (MUSAC Contemporary Art Museum, CA2M, CGAC Center of Contemporary Art, CGAI Center of Image Arts, Artplay Design Center Moscow, Tokyo Image Forum), being part of archives and online catalogues (IFFR Unleashed, Rencontres Internationales Paris-Berlin, MUBI’s Notebook, Filmscalpel). His works have been part of collective exhibitions at Takechi Gallery Kumamoto, Salón Madrid, SixtyEight Art Institute Copenhagen, Enfants Space Hamburg and the Spanish Pavilion of the Venice Biennale of Architecture 2018. Film professor and audiovisual projects tutor at TAI University Arts Center Madrid (2021), LAV Audiovisual School (2017-now) and MAca Master of Architectural Communication (ETSAM+UPM, 2018-2019). Selected as one of the resident artists in the international program “Artists in Aso” (Kumamoto, Japan, 2019). In 2020 he has been beneficiary of a production grant from the Fine Arts Department of the Spanish Ministry of Culture (“Ayudas para la investigación, creación y producción artísticas en el campo de las artes visuales. Ministerio de Cultura y Deporte, Dirección General de Bellas Artes”). Graduated in Architecture (ETSAM, Superior Architecture School of Madrid, Polytechnic University Madrid - exchange grants at The University of Tokyo - Tokyo Daigaku and Shanghai Tongji University - Tongji Daxue) and Contemporary Audiovisual Creation (MasterLAV, Madrid).

Data are -- hey, it's a plural -- subject to the limitations of their sources. (For example, TMDB search results currently max out at 20.) I am limiting myself to free data sources for now. (No, a "free trial" is not free.)

While much of the above data are retrieved directly from outside APIs and other such sources, data from American Film Institute (AFI) and British Film Institute (BFI) were manually entered the old fashioned way into a MySQL database. Re BFI I took the following liberties:

  • I added "runners up" to Top 10 lists, treating them as ties where applicable and numbering them accordingly at the bottom of each list.
  • Regarding those polls wherein "franchise" movies were submitted as one project until BFI's policy changed to regard them separately, I treated them as ties and renumbered the affected lists accordingly (e.g. the Godfather films).

Filtering is applied here to film projects flagged as "adult" by TheMovieDB. Pending "popular demand" I am contemplating a login and profile system with preferences (such as whether to allow adult images to appear) and permissions (such as data entry).

Whereas the overall purpose of this website is to serve as a personal demo/portfolio/workshop of web and data skills, this Movies section is not meant to compete with or substitute for far more definitive movie websites.
