’Edavela (Idavela) Babu’ was born to Late V.Raman (Retd. Administrative Assistant Kerala Police Dept) and Santha Raman (Retd.Music Teacher, Govt High School) on 11th August  at Irinjalakuda in Thrissur District of Kerala. He did his High Schooling at Govt. Model Boy's High School, Irinjalakuda and then took his degree from Christ College, Irinjalakuda.  During his school days he actively participated in all extra curricular activities and won many prizes and was also the recipient of a scholarship, being first in Folk Dance in the 17th State School Youth Festival,1977. During college days he kept the same spirit and won 1st Place in the years-1980, 81, 82, 83- Representing Christ College, Irinjalakuda for Dance Competition in the Calicut University Youth Festival. Greatly Impressed by his skill during his college days, Director Sri.Mohan gave him a role in ‘Edavela"- in 1981.  It was a turning point in his life. He then acted in more than 100 films including one Hindi film (Meena Bazar). Some of his majors hits include Edavela, Auto Brothers, Pranayanilavu, AakashaGanga, Mayajalam, Gazal, Kulapathi, Ayushkalam, Thalasthanam, Ennodu Ishtam Koodamo, Kasargode Kather Bayi, Ottayal Pattalam, Agnisalabhangal, Ganamela, News, Sreedharante Onnam Thirumurivu, Puli Varunne Puli, Ayanam,NeramPularumbol,Pachakkuthira,Udayoan,Naran, Lion,Hitler,Cabinet,Keerthanam, Oru Kadamkatha Pole ,Samagamam ,Gloria Fernandez from USA, Good Boys, Mimics - Super 1000, Ishtamanu Nooruvattom, Mookkillaa Rajyathu Murimookkan Rajavu, Priyankari, KL7 - 95 - Ernakulam North ,Mazhavil Koodaram, Peruvannapurathe Visheshangal, Samudhayam, Pidakkozhi Koovunna Noottandu,Chronic Bachelor, Pattalam ,Mazanagudiyil Mannadiyar Speaking.  He is a popular household name as he has acted in more than 200 Telefilms, Serials, and Mega Serials on the Mini Screen. Other than these, he has worked as Comperer and given many live shows on Doordarshan, Asianet, Surya, Kairali and IndiaVision Channels. He has also lent his voice for dubbing, to Heros like Vineeth, Rehman, K.P.Kumar, Ashok Pothen, Dileep, Vishnu, Baiju….etc and is skilled in modeling too.

While much of the above data are retrieved directly from outside APIs and other such sources, data from American Film Institute (AFI) and British Film Institute (BFI) were manually entered the old fashioned way into a MySQL database. Re BFI I took the following liberties:

  • I added "runners up" to Top 10 lists, treating them as ties where applicable and numbering them accordingly at the bottom of each list.
  • Regarding those polls wherein "franchise" movies were submitted as one project until BFI's policy changed to regard them separately, I treated them as ties and renumbered the affected lists accordingly (e.g. the Godfather films).

Regarding profile removals and data corrections:

Filtering is applied here to film projects flagged as "adult" by TheMovieDB. Pending "popular demand" I am contemplating a login and profile system with preferences (such as whether to allow adult images to appear) and permissions (such as data entry).

Whereas the overall purpose of this website is to serve as a personal demo/portfolio/workshop of web and data skills, this Movies section is not meant to compete with or substitute for far more definitive movie websites.
