Laila, a highly educated girl, grows up in a family that strongly upheld Islam and respected the Minangkabau custom. At 31 years old Laila is still unmarried. The family is worried about Laila's bachelor. Pian, Laila's brother, is urged by his lover to be married soon. Pian can't step over her unmarried sister. Things changed, when a man from France named Liam comes to marry Laila. Liam, who is studying Islam, met Laila on Facebook three years ago. Liam's intention is rejected after a family meeting. Jamil, Laila's uncle asks Pian to help Liam secretly. The situation become complicated when Jamil and Pian learn that the visa deadline for Liam is only 30 days. Plus the arrival of Haris who had just returned from overseas to propose for Laila again.

Inspired by a true story. LAILA (Nirina Zubir) is a highly educated girl who doesn't seem to mindbeing alone in her early 30s. As an online seller, she is connected to many people from different countries, offering her products in front of the monitor. As a member of a Minangkabau family, she somewhat defies her tradition and common practice by not having married at her age. The family is concerned about the situation. One day, Laila is involved in an intense discussion online with a French man named Liam (JonatanCerrada) about a major incident taking place in the capital of France. The discussion takes Liam from Rouen, a small town in northern France to the Land of Minang, a place in the eastern part of Indonesia. Liam's arrival brings some kind of ideological conflict into Laila's big family. Suspicion arises from members of the family who find out that Liam's intention to marry Laila starts from social media. This complicated condition forces Jamil(David Chalik), one of Laila's uncle, and Pian(Praz Teguh), Laila's little brother, to investigate Liam's real agenda coming to Indonesia. Their investigation leads to a unique journey Pianhas never imagined before. A youth leader in his village, he has the chance to visit France embassy. Meanwhile, Haris (Gilang Dirga), who once proposed Laila, returns to the village and add the complication in this whole situation that is going on with Laila.

About the Movie Section

Most data and links to images for the Movies section come from TheMovieDB (TMDB).

Additional data for Film Titles come from The Open Movie Database (OMDb).

At least one plug-in comes from IMDb.

Data are -- hey, it's a plural -- subject to the limitations of their sources. (For example, TMDB search results currently max out at 20.) I am limiting myself to free data sources for now. (No, a "free trial" is not free.)

While much of the above data are retrieved directly from outside APIs and other such sources, data from American Film Institute (AFI) and British Film Institute (BFI) were manually entered the old fashioned way into a MySQL database. Re BFI I took the following liberties:

  • I added "runners up" to Top 10 lists, treating them as ties where applicable and numbering them accordingly at the bottom of each list.
  • Regarding those polls wherein "franchise" movies were submitted as one project until BFI's policy changed to regard them separately, I treated them as ties and renumbered the affected lists accordingly (e.g. the Godfather films).

Regarding profile removals and data corrections:

  • If you would like your profile removed from this site, please contact the source of this data directly, TheMovieDB. My assumption is: once it's gone from their site, it should soon be gone from this site.
  • If you would like to correct movie data on this site, please contact the source of this data directly, TheMovieDB. My assumption is: once it's corrected on their site, it should soon be corrected on this site.
  • For additional corrections and profile removals, please e-mail The Open Movie Database (OMDb).

Filtering is applied here to film projects flagged as "adult" by TheMovieDB. Pending "popular demand" I am contemplating a login and profile system with preferences (such as whether to allow adult images to appear) and permissions (such as data entry).

Whereas the overall purpose of this website is to serve as a personal demo/portfolio/workshop of web and data skills, this Movies section is not meant to compete with or substitute for far more definitive movie websites.

Whether or not he still clings to an award which he won in 1986 as a film critic for his college's newspaper, Jeffrey Hartmann is not responsible for the texts of overviews and biographies supplied by external data sources.
