An epic journey through Don Quixote's troubled mind, from which five paths to the unknown are opened: to reason, to freedom, to love, to friendship, to adventure; although only three destinations await at the end of an imaginary and audacious existence: the narrative of the adventurous life of Cervantes; the survival of a legendary novel in these heathen times, when the one-armed gentleman is nothing but dust and bones; the memory of the living, writers and scholars, where both the tormented captive and the insane hero, are immortals beings and will be forever.

A peculiar film based the immortal vintage novel Don Quijote , considered to be the best literary work ever written that stands in an unique position between the modern novel and medieval chivalric romance . And deemed to be one of the most influencial works of literature from the Golden Age . This work was made for television by Rafael Alcázar , though it turns out to be a combination of fictitious and documentary , as well as depicting the periods of lucidity and madness. This is a blending of recreation of the adventures Don Quijote , adding documentary scenes , including a narrator who tells the happenings . Here Don Quijote is well played by Txema Blasco and Angel Andrés López gives a fabulous Sancho Panza . There also appears other actors as Javier Albalá, Antonio Dechent as prisoner Ginés de Pasamonte , Paula Echevarría and Juan Llaneras as Cervantes. It follows brief episodes of the classic plot , but introducing a voice in off describing events about Don Quijote and regarding Miguel De Cervantes life himself , being paced in fits and starts and feels disjointed . As Don Quijote is a brave hidalgo , fanatic for chivalry novels and enthusiast of brave knights : Palmerin , Tirant Le Blanc , Amadis de Gaula , as he decides to undertake imaginary adventures along with his friend , the simple farmer Sancho Panza to who promises the Insula of Barataria , along the way he takes the ¨Yelmo de Mambrino¨ to a barber , battles windmills , countrymen , warriors , against Pentapolin , he frees Ginès de Pasamonte and other prisoners , he is finally locked at a cage and he's vanquished by the Knight of White Moon, who's actually Bachiller Sanson Carrasco . This enduring romantic adventure deals the enthusiast , passionate knight Don Quixote , showing his periods of lucidity and craziness , and it is paced in enjoyable as well as deliberate rhythm . There are several documentary scenes including : Cervantes captivity in Algiers for five years , his fight at battle Lepanto 1571, where he's nicknamed the Lepanto's one-armed , and under command Juan De Austria in which at the behest of Pope Pio V is joined Republic of Venice , Malta and Spanish Empire , defeating the Turks , his marriage to Catalina Salazar , amond others . And relying heavily on the documentary , certain confusion and mixing reenacting to documentary without order .The motion picture was well directed by Rafael Alcazar . He directed some nice but non-successful films such as : Caleidoscopio 2006 , Besos de gato 2003 , Corsarios del chip 1996 , El laberinto griego1993 , No hagas planes con Marga 1988.There are a lot of versions about this classic novel , such as : ¨Don Quijote¨ 1933 by G. W. Pabst . ¨Don Quijote de la Mancha¨ 1945 by Rafael Gil with Rafael Rivelles , Juan Calvo , Sara Montiel , Fernando Rey . ¨Don Kikhot¨1957 by the Russian Grigori Kozintev . ¨Don Quijote cabalga de nuevo¨ by Roberto Gabaldon with Cantinflas , Fernando Fernández Gómez , Maria Fernando D'ocon. And a musical version 1972 by Arthur Hiller titled ¨Man of La Mancha¨ with Peter O'Toole , James Coco , Sofia Loren , John Castle , Brian Blessed . ¨Don Quijote¨ by Peter Yates with John Lightow , Bob Hoskins. Besides , Spanish series , 1991/1992 titled ¨El Quijote de Miguel de Cervantes¨ with Fernando Rey , Alfredo Landa , Manuel Alexandre , Aitana Sánchez Gijon , Francisco Merino , Esperanza Roy . ¨Don Quijote¨ by Manuel Gutierrez Aragon with Juan Luis Galiardo and Carlos Iglesias . Don QuiXote 2015 with Carmen Argentino, Horatio Sanz , ¨Don Quixote: The Ingenious Gentleman of La Mancha¨ (2015) by Dave Dorsey . Finally , ¨The Man Who Killed Don Quixote¨(2018) by Terry Gillian with Jonathan Price , Adam Driver , Stellan Skarsgård , Olga Kurylenko , Paloma Bloyd , Óscar Jaenada . And in cartoon movies as Don Quijote de la Mancha by Cruz Delgado and Donkey Xote 2007 by José Pozo .

About the Movie Section

Most data and links to images for the Movies section come from TheMovieDB (TMDB).

Additional data for Film Titles come from The Open Movie Database (OMDb).

At least one plug-in comes from IMDb.

Data are -- hey, it's a plural -- subject to the limitations of their sources. (For example, TMDB search results currently max out at 20.) I am limiting myself to free data sources for now. (No, a "free trial" is not free.)

While much of the above data are retrieved directly from outside APIs and other such sources, data from American Film Institute (AFI) and British Film Institute (BFI) were manually entered the old fashioned way into a MySQL database. Re BFI I took the following liberties:

  • I added "runners up" to Top 10 lists, treating them as ties where applicable and numbering them accordingly at the bottom of each list.
  • Regarding those polls wherein "franchise" movies were submitted as one project until BFI's policy changed to regard them separately, I treated them as ties and renumbered the affected lists accordingly (e.g. the Godfather films).

Regarding profile removals and data corrections:

  • If you would like your profile removed from this site, please contact the source of this data directly, TheMovieDB. My assumption is: once it's gone from their site, it should soon be gone from this site.
  • If you would like to correct movie data on this site, please contact the source of this data directly, TheMovieDB. My assumption is: once it's corrected on their site, it should soon be corrected on this site.
  • For additional corrections and profile removals, please e-mail The Open Movie Database (OMDb).

Filtering is applied here to film projects flagged as "adult" by TheMovieDB. Pending "popular demand" I am contemplating a login and profile system with preferences (such as whether to allow adult images to appear) and permissions (such as data entry).

Whereas the overall purpose of this website is to serve as a personal demo/portfolio/workshop of web and data skills, this Movies section is not meant to compete with or substitute for far more definitive movie websites.
